Well, I must have touched some nerves. I anticipated this eventuality. That is why I operate a moderated blog. There are quite a few uneducated fanatics out there. Several attempted to post unsubstantiated, irrational posts including bad language.
I have no problem with a debate based on facts, or even a few opinions and beliefs, but what some in the general public do is:
1. use humor to discredit facts and The Truth
2. use "known" (actually unknown and unproven) facts to rebuff an assertion
3. threaten or bluster
4. discredit all facts with conspiracy theories
5. when confronted with irrefutable facts, duck with statements like, "a complete fabrication".

I welcome debate, but try to support your objection(s) with a few facts please.

Michael,
Health and Physical Education, Mathematics; occasionally creative writing and science one semester.
I looked over PPIC. It sounds like a moderate and factual site. I probably would support them. Are you the author and server supporter?

Yes, this is my site, some days i'm able to devote time into it and actually put real thought, but most of the time I dont have a lot of time and I just try to do or write humorous stuff. Sounds like you taught a little bit of everything. I don't support PPIC, I understand the logic, and "put parents in charge" just the words alone sound good, but thats just not the case I do not think. My dad and mom were both school teachers, my brother and sister in law are current school teachers. I decided to stay out of education. My dad is a current state senator from spartanburg, where abouts do you live?

Can't say that I agree with your first (humor to discredit facts..etc).....mainly because humor generally only works against lies or idiocy......good example is dr adams column at townhall.....

Best example is how he answers his hate mail....http://www.dradams.org....

otherwise, totally agree with you

Michael-- Sorry, I thought it was the California PPIC site!
Yes, I totally agree that parents should be 100% in charge of their children's education. The public schools in SC have failed to provide a safe environment. I had to fight every day for the average student. The disruptive students -- about 5-10% of the student population caused 90% of the problems and continually disturbed and threatened others.

See my NEA blog on education on The Truth.

John,

I don't have this problem since it appears that only you, my wife, my father and me read my blog. I try to post well reasoned arguments based either on known facts or personal experience on your site. Too bad others can't or won't do the same.

personally, I do not moderate comments. I feel if some idiot makes a boneheaded comment on my site, his own comment, is the worst argument against himself, and there's no way that I can top it. I'm not sure that it's a free speech thing, but then again I'm not sure that is not, guess is something we all have to face and decide for ourselves.

glad you came by today made a comment. glad I left it up.

Chief,
Great post. These things are exactly what some commenters do. Thanks for laying it out so we don't have to! :)

It has been said that "democracy is only a shift from physical conflict to verbal conflict"....

I can't dispute it.
